Often we let actions or events seem to overwhelm or stress us. When we take a look at the word F.E.A.R. as an acronym, it means False Evidence Appearing Real. When you live in a place of gratitude, fear can’t survive. In your daily life, fear is what holds us back. Fear appears as thoughts that hold us back and/or beliefs we have about ourselves or what we imagine blocks us from living the life we want. Fear can be immobilizing and keep us from taking risks that will lead us to a more fulfilling life.
Take a minute to identify which fears you have created and given power. It might be: - Fear of failure
- Fear of success
- Fear of loss
- Fear that you're not good enough or not smart enough
- Fear that you are too old or too young to start something new
- Fear of being revealed as someone different than who people think that you are
- Fear of not being able to sustain past successes
- Fear of aiming too high and not reaching your goal
- Fear of loneliness
- Fear of separation
- Fear of happiness (Yes, this is a real fear for some.)
Being fearful of future outcomes is not your natural state – it is a product of your ego. It is fake and only has the power if you’re willing to give it power. Now let’s implement a process to get rid of these fears forever! First, recognize that the opposite of fear is gratitude. Gratitude is your key to releasing fear and living a more enjoyable, successful and more powerful life. We can either live in fear or gratitude. Which do you choose? Process to Eliminate Fear as a Block to Progress If you are ready to dramatically improve tangible results and increase your sense of happiness and connectedness, then I invite you to take a leap of faith with me and incorporate the following into your daily routine. Doing this puts you in control of consciously increasing your level of gratitude. 1.) Start every day with an expression of all that you are grateful for. Set your alarm five minutes early and as you start your day, before you get out of bed, use those extra five minutes and remain relaxed, take some deep breaths and reflect on the many things in your life that are going well, the people, things and conditions that you are grateful for. Once you get in the habit you will discover that your list is quite long and that focusing on five to ten at a time is a great way to set the tone for a really prosperous day. Allow your SELF to just “be” with that feeling of thankfulness. If you find that this is a challenge, do it anyway. I’d invite you to write the things you are grateful for and start a Gratitude Journal. Write the date at the top of the page, and write several things you are grateful for. Consider doing this before you go to bed at night as well as when you awake in the morning. 2.) During the day, continue on the path that you created in your morning gratitude session by periodically stopping the action to consider what you are grateful for in your immediate surroundings and current situations. This is not about striking a Lotus pose in the office; just take a few discrete deep breaths, at the top of each hour and especially just prior to entering into any typically stressful events or presentations. Commit your attention to what is going right, what you admire in the people that you are interacting with and your expectations for perfect outcomes to whatever you are working on or thinking about.
And then just say aloud “THANK YOU Spirit!” Maybe you experienced a parking space opening just at the time you arrived for your meeting. Or maybe you were protected from a car that turned out onto the street just missing your bumper. Maybe you received a thank you coupon in the mail for just the item you were planning to purchase. Express thanks for the things that continue to go well during the day, as they are happening. You might even say “YES!” to reinforce the good that is coming forward. 3.) At night just before you dose off to sleep complete the process by reflecting on your day and once again, consider all of the things that you are grateful for in your experience that day. Write several things in your Gratitude Journal. This allows your mind to go to sleep resting on positive uplifting thoughts. Implement this process, everyday for twenty-one days and you will feel more connected, more in the flow and more masterful. Your performance, results and enjoyment of life will astound you. Remember, what you focus on is what expands in your life. Focus on what you are grateful and you set into motion a positive chain reaction. Gratitude creates more acts of kindness and blessings in your life. You can feel fear but not be fearful. You can recognize that you are feeling fear and in the same moment decide not to give that fear any power. With practice you can eliminate it from your experience. When you eliminate fear, you will be amazed by the boost in energy, performance level, and the confidence that you will feel. Moving past fear and overwhelm starts by being aware of the power that you are giving fear, recognizing that holding on to fears may be a crutch that you have become comfortable with. Reframe the experience to make a commitment to consciously unplug from fear and connect with gratitude.
