July the seventh month of the year is the time to reflect on what you want to learn this year. July is named for Julius Caesar, who certainly had big visions about expanding the world. Did you set a learning goal back in January when we started the year? If so, how is your progress?
In the United States we celebrate Independence Day July 4th, commencing those who had the courage to break from the "Old" and live in a "New World.”
This month you can do the same on an individual level, if you are willing. The key is to take the first step.
The root of the word “courage” - - Latin cor - - is found in all the Romance languages: coeur in French, corazon in Spanish, cuore in Italian all mean “heart.”
We speak of “having a heart” (compassion), of “having the heart for” some undertaking (courage), if “heartless” people (uncaring), of speaking from the heart takes courage, for it means listening to the core (also from the same root as heart) of our being. On the heart path we listen to the sound of a “different drummer,” not the one most others are marching to.
Early on in life we learn to deny the promptings of our creative self. We choose the spouse our parents approve of, or the career that will bring us power and money (or whatever else we think we’re supposed to want.)
As a Relationship Transition Coach, I help my clients identify what really matters to them. To take a look inside and ask, “ what really matters to me?” Just as my coaching clients take a look at themselves to discover who they are and what matters to them, the good news is that is it never too late to put heart back into one’s life.
The fact is that our true dreams don’t disappear, they just go underground. Deep within, we still carry our secretly held wishes, both literally and figuratively, no matter how old we are. They may actually be lodged in our anatomical heart.
Cardiology research shows evidence that our desires are registered in this organ. Heart transplant patients tell about their surprising and sudden desire for foods that they either disliked or were neutral about before the surgery. In checking with the donor’s family, it has been discovered that the person had a passion for a particular food. Sometimes the heart-transplant recipient discovers an attraction to music or activities s/he had no interest in previous to the operation that were favorites of the heart’s donor.
Could it be that the heart is a filing cabinet of our wishes and passions? Are you ready to look at your heart’s desires?”
During the month of July, I invite you to listen to your heart and ask these questions:
Am I ready to look into my heart (what I truly desire and want in my life)?
Am I courageous to follow my heart and just “be” me?
Am I ready to listen to my inner voice that says “live your purpose - - share your gift?"
Am I ready to have my deepest dreams come true?
If the answer is “yes”, then you have given yourself permission to follow your heart and to act from the place of inner truth. This takes courage and is very different from wanting what everyone else wants or trying to acquire the most “stuff.”
When you celebrate the 4th of July this year, take time to stand up, break from the "old” and live in a "New World. " Celebrate your “independence” and follow your heart!
My intention each month is to inspire, motivate and encourage you to discover who you are and live the life you have always wanted.
